From 1965 to 1967, Prof. A. Sathasivam served as Head of the Department of Tamil at the University of Ceylon, Colombo. He continued in departmental leadership at the Colombo Campus of the University of Ceylon from 1967 to 1969.
This period marks his movement from lecturer and researcher to academic leader. His work in Colombo placed him within one of Sri Lanka’s most important educational and administrative centres, where Tamil studies formed part of the wider university curriculum.
The Colombo leadership years are important for understanding how Prof. Sathasivam contributed not only through books and research papers, but also through institution-building. His later appointment as Professor of Tamil at the Colombo Campus in 1970 followed naturally from this period of departmental responsibility.
