University of Oxford and Prof. A. Sathasivam

The University of Oxford was the international academic setting for Prof. A. Sathasivam’s doctoral studies. After completing his B.A. and M.A. at the University of Ceylon, he pursued a D.Phil. in linguistics at Oxford between 1954 and 1956.

This period helped shape the linguistic direction of his later scholarship. His work on Tamil grammar, the structure and history of the Tamil verb, Dravidian linguistics and comparative language study can be connected to the research training he received during this stage.
